The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti to investigate allegations of murder and sexual misconduct against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Ministry (also known as Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries).

The directive follows widespread public outrage over allegations that have circulated on social media in recent days. Reports indicate that the cleric stepped aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as the accusations intensified, with several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, making claims against him.

Okafor had publicly apologised to Ogala during a church service, where he knelt on the pulpit, admitted to past “mistakes,” and asked for forgiveness. The controversy comes weeks after the pastor married a new wife, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025, at a ceremony attended by prominent clerics.

Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, had said the police could not arrest Okafor due to the absence of a formal petition from any alleged victim. She also stated that she was not aware of any official complaints against the cleric.

However, on Sunday, Adebisi confirmed that the Commissioner of Police had directed the SCID to invite Okafor for questioning and summon the alleged victims and witnesses for interviews. She said the investigation would proceed despite the lack of a formal complaint, adding that witnesses would be asked to provide statements to aid the probe.

The allegations first surfaced on December 14, when Ogala shared emotional videos on Instagram accusing the pastor of a sexual relationship that allegedly began in 2017 and lasted nine years. She claimed he repeatedly promised to marry her but later married another woman.

Ogala also alleged that Okafor shared her explicit images, contributed to the collapse of her previous marriage, and caused her emotional and financial distress. She further claimed that the cleric offered her $10,000 to retract her allegations and later demanded N1bn in damages through a legal notice, citing threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.

As the controversy deepened, other women, including Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also made allegations ranging from infidelity and manipulation to physical assault.
