The police escort attached to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda has been withdrawn.
The police escorts and those securing the Assembly complex were also withdrawn with immediate effect.
This development is said to have left Meranda and the Assembly without formal security cover.
Confirming the development, a source told Tribune: “As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own.”
He further warned that the Speaker is now “vulnerable and open to attack,” stressing the urgent need for authorities to address the situation.
On January 13, 2025, Modashiru Obasa was impeached as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly by lawmakers while he was in the United States, US.
Upon his return, Obasa contested his impeachment, stressing that it didn’t follow due process.
But, Meranda was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker and got the blessings of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, GAC.
However, there are reports of Obasa’s return, hence the withdrawal of Meranda’s security details.
