Nigerian Custom Generated N10.167nn In Two Months From Kano – Area Controller, Umar

The Nigeria Customs Service in charge of Kano/Jigawa Area Command said it has generated N10.167 billion, from January to March 2022, informing it has opened the Maigatari, Niger Republic Boarder for more international businesses.

Speaking while displaying seized contrabands goods from Smugglers, the Area Command, Controller, Muhammad Abubakar Umar, said the N10.167 billion was a slight difference from the 2021 collections, which stood at N7.6 billion.

He said, the differences between this year’s collections of three months with that of 2021, stood at N2.4 billion which means the Command would achieve its set target.

The Custom Controller added that in 2021, generated N27.549 billion in the Kano/Jigawa Area Command from January to December.

Muhammad said the Command seized contraband goods of Foreign Rice, Spaghetti, Donkey Skins, Second hands Clothing’s and other goods valued at N498.6 million, adding that four persons were arrested in connection with the smuggling of Donkey Skins.

“When I assumed duty, I realized that Maigatari Border was not functioning, I investigated to know what is happening, already I have assigned Personnel to ensure that the border is fully functional and all the needed revenue are collected from there”.

The Control denied knowledge of fuel smuggling from Kano to neighbouring countries, saying, ” I have not witnessed such but, let me sound a serious warning to willing minds, that we are ready for them”.
