The Field Commander of Amotekun in the state, David Akinremi, said the corps arrested one Aminu Azeez and 14 others for conspiracy and murder of Inspector Adebayo Adele who was killed on September 20, 2020.

Akinremi, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, January 5, said the 14 conspirators were arrested in Ogun State.

According to the commander, the police officer was macheted to death while leading an investigation team to arrest suspects who bought stolen cows in Ibadan.

“On 20th September, a team of Police Officers attached to IGP IRT Annex Ibadan while on investigation was attacked by One Aminu Azeez, a butcher by profession, and about 14 others,” the statement reads.

“The report has it that the principal suspect, Aminu Azeez, was alleged to have bought stolen cows belonging to a complainant based in Ibadan. As the IRT team arrived Imeko-Afon to arrest the suspect and his accomplices, Aminu Azeez resisted arrest and instigated others to attack the team.

“In the course of the assault on the Police team, the suspects macheted one Insp. Adebayo Adele, a member of the team which led to his death

“As part of our collaborative effort, Amorekun Operatives, based on credible intelligence on January 2, 2022, arrested the above-named suspects whose action led to the death of the Police Inspector.”

Akinremi added that the suspects had been transferred to Ibadan Police Command for further investigation to be carried out while searching for others.

“The suspects have been handed over to the IRT team from Ibadan in continuation of investigation into the case while efforts are ongoing towards arresting other suspects implicated in the attack still at large,” he added.
