President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice Prof Yemi Osinbajo have arrived in Kano State for the wedding of the president’s only son Yusuf Buhari and Zahra Bayero.
The bride is the daughter of the emir of Bichi Nasir Ado Bayero.
The nation’s top two citizens arrived separately on Friday. The president arrived via a presidential aircraft while Osinbajo arrived via a helicopter.
The president had earlier dispatched a high-level delegation ahead of his arrival for the wedding event.
The delegation had included Bashir Magashi, minister of defense; Sabo Nanono, minister of agriculture; Hadi Sirika, minister for aviation; and Suleiman Hussein Adamu, minister for water resources.
Before making his way to Kano, Buhari had touched down in Yola, Adamawa State to condole with the government and people of the state over the death of former permanent secretary and an elder statesman, Ahmed Joda.
The nation’s who’s who, including state governors and business persons, are currently in Kano for what has been termed the royal wedding of the year.
Yusuf and Zahra met at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom.
In March, Yusuf’s family members had visited the family of Ado Bayero to seek the marriage of Zahra.
The lovebirds were said to have met in the UK where the president’s son finished his undergraduate studies.
Zahra is a graduate of architecture from Brighton University in the UK.
