Identities Of 16 Officers Detained Over Alleged Coup Plot Against President Tinubu Released
The identities and profiles of sixteen senior military officers arrested for allegedly plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu’s administration have been uncovered as the military continues its investigation, JomogNews reports.
Sources within the Nigerian military confirmed to Premium Times that fourteen of the detained officers are from the Nigerian Army, while the remaining two are from the Navy and the Air Force.
Twelve of the army officers are from the Infantry Corps, one from the Signals Corps, and one from the Ordnance Corps.
The officers in custody include a brigadier general, a colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, a lieutenant, a naval lieutenant commander, and an air force squadron leader.
Below are the names and profiles of the alleged coup co conspirators:
Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq
Born on January 3, 1974, Brigadier General Sadiq is from Nasarawa State and holds service number N/10321. He trained as a cadet at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) from August 14, 1992, to September 20, 1997, as a member of the 44 Regular Course.
The infantry officer was promoted to colonel in 2015 and to brigadier general in 2019. He previously served as Commander of the 3rd Brigade in Kano and Garrison Commander of the 81 Division in Lagos.
He was once detained in 2024 for alleged diversion of rice palliatives and illegal sale of military equipment. He is suspected to be the leader of the alleged coup plot.
Colonel M.A. Ma’aji
Colonel Ma’aji, born on March 1, 1976, is from Niger State and has service number N/10668.
He trained at the NDA from August 18, 1995, to September 16, 2000, as part of the 47 Regular Course.
A member of the Infantry Corps, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 2013 and colonel in 2017.
He served as Commanding Officer of the 19 Battalion in Okitipupa, Ondo State, and took part in Operation Crocodile Smile II in 2017.
He also served at Depot Nigerian Army and later at Operation Delta Safe.
Lieutenant Colonel S. Bappah
A member of the Nigerian Army Signals Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Bappah was born on June 21, 1984, in Bauchi State.
His service number is N/13036.
He began cadet training on September 27, 2004, and completed it on October 4, 2008. He belongs to the 56 Regular Course of the NDA.
Lieutenant Colonel A.A. Hayatu
Lieutenant Colonel Hayatu, born on August 13, 1983, is from Kaduna State.
He trained at the NDA between September 27, 2004, and October 4, 2008, as a member of the 56 Regular Course.
His service number is N/13038. He is an officer in the Infantry Corps.
Lieutenant Colonel P. Dangnap
Born on April 1, 1986, Lieutenant Colonel Dangnap is from Plateau State. His service number is N/13025.
He began his NDA training on September 27, 2004, and completed it on October 4, 2008, under the 56 Regular Course.
An Infantry officer, he was previously court-martialed in 2015 along with 29 others during the fight against Boko Haram.
Lieutenant Colonel M. Almakura
A native of Nasarawa State, Lieutenant Colonel Almakura was born on March 18, 1983, with service number N/12983.
He trained at the NDA between September 27, 2004, and October 4, 2008, as a member of the 56 Regular Course.
He is an officer in the Infantry Corps.
Major A.J. Ibrahim
Major Ibrahim, born on June 12, 1987, is from Gombe State.
He holds service number N/13065 and is also a member of the 56 Regular Course.
He trained at the NDA between September 27, 2004, and October 4, 2008. An Infantry officer, he became a captain in 2013 before his promotion to major.
Major M.M. Jiddah
Born on July 9, 1985, Major Jiddah hails from Katsina State. His service number is N/13003.
He trained at the NDA between September 27, 2004, and October 4, 2008, under the 56 Regular Course. He is an officer in the Infantry Corps.
Major M.A. Usman
Major Usman, born on April 1, 1989, is from the Federal Capital Territory. His service number is N/15404.
He trained at the NDA between August 16, 2008, and September 14, 2012, as a member of the 60 Regular Course. He is an Infantry Corps officer.
Major D. Yusuf
Major Yusuf was born on May 26, 1988, and hails from Gombe State.
He serves in the Ordnance Corps with service number N/14753. He trained at the NDA between July 7, 2007, and September 8, 2012, as a member of the 59 Regular Course.
Major I. Dauda
Major Dauda, born on November 26, 1983, is from Jigawa State. His service number is N/13625.
He joined the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission and trained between June 5, 2009, and March 27, 2010. He is an Infantry officer and a member of the Short Service Commission Course 38.
Captain Ibrahim Bello
Captain Bello was born on July 28, 1987, and is a member of the Direct Short Service Commission Course 43. His service number is N/16266.
Captain A.A. Yusuf
Captain Yusuf serves in the Nigerian Army with service number N/16724. Details about his training are still being reviewed.
Lieutenant S.S. Felix
Lieutenant Felix is an Army officer with service number N/18105. Information about his unit and course is yet to be confirmed.
Lieutenant Commander D.B Abdullahi
Lieutenant Commander Abdullahi serves in the Nigerian Navy with service number NN/3289. He holds a naval rank equivalent to a major in the Army.
Squadron Leader S.B. Adamu
Squadron Leader Adamu, a Nigerian Air Force officer with service number NAF/3481, holds a rank equivalent to a major in the Army.
The Defence Headquarters and the Federal Government have not issued any statement on the alleged coup plot.
Military authorities are continuing investigations to determine the level of involvement of each officer in the suspected plan to overthrow the government.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday visited Port Harcourt City Local Government as part of his “thank you” visit across Rivers State.
Upon his arrival, a group of women displayed a symbolic gesture of loyalty by spreading their wrappers on the ground for his motorcade.
The women and supporters of the Minister were in a jubilant mode as Wike drove on the wrappers.
Wike has been going around local governments in the state to appreciate them for their support while reeling out moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the course of his visits, the Minister had fired several salvos at political actors in the state, warning that their sudden support for President Bola Tinubu won’t secure them any ticket in 2027.
Wike also renewed rivalry with Governor Sim Fubara over the leadership control of the political space in the state.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially reaffirmed that the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, are ongoing and have not been suspended.
The Assembly said the process is still ongoing and is being conducted strictly in line with constitutional provisions.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Hon. Enemi George.
According to the statement, the impeachment process, which began on Thursday, January 8, 2026, remains on course in line with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The lawmakers disclosed that separate notices of allegations bordering on gross misconduct have been served on both the governor and his deputy in line with Section 188 of the Constitution.
“The notices of allegations of gross misconduct against the Governor and the Deputy Governor have been duly forwarded to them by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and the House is awaiting their responses,” the statement said.
The Assembly maintained that it is constitutionally obligated to act in the interest of the rule of law and ensure that no public office holder acts outside legal boundaries.
Reacting to reports suggesting that the impeachment move had been halted, the House accused some individuals and media outlets of deliberately spreading misinformation to mislead the public and stir tension between the legislature and Rivers residents.
The lawmakers described such reports as false and insisted they would not succumb to intimidation, threats, or blackmail.
“We are aware of renewed attempts by certain persons and media platforms to misinform the public by claiming that the impeachment process has been discontinued. The public should disregard such falsehoods, as the process remains active,” the statement added.
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and constitutional responsibilities, stressing that it would not be distracted by what it termed “cheap propaganda.”
It also appreciated the people of Rivers State for their support and prayers amid the ongoing political developments and extended goodwill to Nigerians committed to the nation’s democratic journey.
JomogNews reports that during Thursday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally read the notice of allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara on the floor of the House.
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says the second coming to office of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, after the elapsing of the state of emergency should have made him better.
Fayose’s remarks come as the Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara as of January 8, 2026.
Speaking in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television on Friday, Fayose said he was removed as governor and went to exile but became a better person upon his return.
Fayose said that President Bola Tinubu hates ingratitude just like any other person else does.
The former Ekiti governor also dismissed the claim that what is happening in Rivers state is politics taken too far.
According to him, the constitution provides rules of engagement for every politician, stressing that it is when one gets out of the rule that he begins to look for public sympathy.
“The coming back of Governor Fubara should have made him a better person .If you made a mistake the first time, the second time you are not supposed to go through that route.
“Politics is a power game. Nobody solves political game for you. With due respect, let me tell you. Fubara is the one enjoying the office of the governor of Rivers state. It’s not the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“Some people are saying it’s about Tinubu’s election. No! Because Tinubu’s election will come first, don’t forget that. Both Wike and Fubara will all work for Tinubu. Two weeks after, there will be an election for Rivers state,” he said.
